Few surf shops rent surfboards here and there and can teach you the basics. Of course, the beach is the main reason people travel all the way to be here and choose to stay on this part of the island. The beach is immense 1. Trees provide plenty of shade to the entire bay, where you will find drink vendors, beach massage, and a few small but good Thai restaurants. The sand is soft, and the sea clear and blue during the low season.
You can enjoy a few bars, shops, and restaurants on the street that runs parallel to the beach. Karon viewpoint, a few kilometres south of Kata Beach, offers a beautiful panoramic view on three bays: Kata Noi, Kata Beach and Karon in the far. This viewpoint, one of the most famous sights of Phuket, is easy to access by the seaside road. Dino Park is a well-designed dinosaur-themed mini-golf with its cool volcano! Surf House Phuket is a fun artificial wave flowing on a safe rubber slide, great for both adults and kids to play and even practice your balance.
The bar and restaurant around the waterslide are trendy and often hosts parties at night. Surfing is popular during the low season, usually between June and November. Waves are not big, but the south end of the beach is a great spot to learn. You can easily rent all kinds of surfboards anywhere along the beach. Wat Kitti Sangkharam is a modest but beautiful temple at the foot of a hill on Kata Beach back road. Kata Beach has a vast array of places to eat and dine, from street food and food markets to award-winning restaurants.
Beach dining has always been a favourite during the day, while panoramic sunset terraces are perfect to end your day.
You will be surprised by the level of cuisine and setting you can get in Kata Beach on the high-end. The second road of Kata Beach is packed with places to eat for every budget. Eating cheap Thai food on the beach with your feet in the sand has become a rare luxury in Phuket. There is still a small cluster of modest-looking restaurants at the very north of the beach, and you should enjoy them while they last! Kata Seafood is easy to spot because of its location right on the beach, next to a gigantic tree.
The restaurant serving Thai and seafood is rather touristy, but It kept a certain old fashioned charm, and beachfront restaurants are rare in Kata! There are so many places all around Kata where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner. From Thai food, seafood, street food to steak houses and some excellent Italian ristorantes, finding a place to eat will never be a problem.

I would definitely return to Kata. The main strip is nice and relatively relaxed We spent our time around the Kata Beach area The actual beach is beautiful - crystal clear water, lots of food and drink, lots of life but no intense sellers.
The sunsets are magic as well Things I recommend in Kata 1. Spend as much time as you can there 2. The singer at The Palms Lucky Balloon on Kata Beach 4.
Dinner at one of the Mom Tri restaurants - amazing food 5. Hire a car SirBuzz Goulburn, Australia 4 contributions. Kata was nice and less boozy then Patong. Kata was a really nice place to stay and were were glad we stayed there and not in Patong- which was really tacky and full of bars but I guess Patong is great if your planning to drink like a fish and party all night so if thats your scene then Kata isn't for you.
The beach was nice as well, though we didn't spend much time there. Plenty of deck chairs to hire and vendors selling snacks, so you didnt have to go too far from your towel. We found Kata a little more expensive food and shopping then in Patong though. We went to Patong for a couple of short day trips, but transport took most of our money so take note: Take the taxi from the Airport metered ones - walk out of the airport and turn right and ignore all the people asking for 'bus' or 'taxi', you walk about 30 meters and you will see the taxi rank all the way at the end it was baht to Kata compared to for the 'others'.
Tuktuks were baht Kata to Patong asking b. Had no choice as there is no bus. And they were not interested in bargaining as they know they have you, but we manage to knock baht off. We also caught the bus which was 30baht per person this went to Karon and then to Phuket town.
The bus stop was on the beach side of the road opposite to the Kata Beach elephant fountain. Phuket town was a good day trip. My husband and I just got back from a fantastic 8 days at Kata Beach. Although we stayed about a 15 min. Kata Beach is a nice contrast between the very peaceful and deserted Karon Beach and the crazy, dirty, hectic Patong Beach. Kata Beach is clean with beautiful white sand.
You will never get bored though, because there are numerous cheap beach side restaurants, places to get thai massages on the beach and plenty of water sports i. The water is warm and clear and great to play around in, but you can also lounge on the beach in one of their sun loungers only baht or 4 euro to rent for the day. I would also recommend trying a place at the south end of the beach called Kata Mama Seafood for lunch. We ate here everyday for lunch it was so good and so cheap!
An average meal costs about baht for a rice or noodle dish and anywhere from baht for a meat or fish dish. Drinks are cheap too and there is a great view of Kata Beach from here. Harleyclarkey County Dublin, Ireland 1, contributions. Kata has become a dreadful place indeed. I used to really love Kata, and Karon too, having first come to Phuket over 25 years ago.
It was then a true paradise Island. Phuket has degenerated into a criminal infested bolt hole. The quality of the tourist has gone serioiusly down market over the past ten years or so. This could so easily have been a five star island, like Mauritius who were clever and kept the quality up. I like to go somewhere where I can experience the local culture and customs.
It surely is what travel is all about? That was before the full on Russian invasion and the increasing hostile attitude of the locals and the local Mafia.
Everything now has signage in Russian So this is now their market and they are welcome to it. The Russians, as all too often said here on TA, are rude, brusque and arrogant. In effect they don't know how to behave. Phuket unfortunately has become one of their favourite playgrounds. The Chinese are also there in their tens of thousands but they arrange everything, hotels, coaches, tours, etc. I have though noticed the serious decline of the Western tourist over the past five years.
Phuket is the epicentre of corruption in Thailand. There is a very dangerous Mafia alive and well in Phuket and especially here in Kata. This is well documented with the recent arrest of the Mayor and his family thaivisa. Don't expect any help or sympathy from the local Police either Kata is not a true Thai experience I have lived in Chalong, a few kilometres away, so I have an excellent insight into the dark side of Thailand.
And it is very dark indeed. Do not get into any sort of trouble and do not confront or even argue with a local. You may very well end up checking your medical insurance I have witnessed truly terrible acts of violence in Kata and nothing was done about it. I witnessed a young Norwegian get hit very hard over his head, and further threatened, with a beer bottle by the female bar owner. All because he fell of his chair and dropped an ash tray on the ground. She with the smiling face became a violent thug within seconds.
Kata has a beautiful beach, and do go to Kata Noi just around the corner, but beware the rip tides and DO NOT go anywhere near a jet ski. The Mafia will find "damage" and will, with the help of the police, screw you for all they can get. The Kata hotels, in general, charge silly prices. Many see it as a privilidge for you to stay in scruffy, dirty, badly maintained and sub standard accomodation and as long as we continue to pay they will continue to charge. Many restaurants have the lowest hygiene standards I have seen anywhere and it is a miracle not more suffer food poisoning.
The staff in hotels and restaurants are all too often arrogant, indifferennt and indeed very hostile to guests. Many don't actually like you!! It was a once in a life time experience and I am already booking my trip back there.
Will come here again in the futurw. Travel Guides. Phuket Province. Kata Beach. Liked by Ranked No. Seashore Beach. Open Open 24 hours. Recommended sightseeing time: 3 hours. What travelers say:.
