When is galactic alignment

Although the planets seem like they are close in proximity and we can see them in the Earthly skies, they are actually extremely far away. Mercury is 89 million miles away from Earth, Jupiter is million miles away and Saturn is the furthest at almost a billion miles from Earth.

The closest object in proximity to Earth is the moon at , miles away, reports Joe Rao for Space. Mercury will continue to be seen as a bright star until March 20, CNN reports. Elizabeth Gamillo is a daily correspondent for Smithsonian and a science journalist based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Note that the claims are not being made by Maya people themselves. The Sun is but one of a few hundred billion stars that make up the Milky Way Galaxy. The Milky Way Galaxy is shaped like a disk with a bulge in the center. The disk is about , light-years across and 1, light-years thick. Remember, a light-year is the distance that light travels in one year it is not a measurement of time, but of distance.

The Sun is located about 30, light-years from the center about halfway out. The Sun moves in a roughly circular orbit about the center of the Galaxy the fine details of the orbit are pretty messy , taking about million years to complete one trip.

Since we are located inside the disk of the Milky Way, we do not have that outsider view of it. Here on Earth, we see it as a band of hazy light running through the sky with dark rifts inside it. From this perspective and using only the unaided eye, it is difficult to discern its center.

But with modern tools like telescopes that can see infrared and radio light, we now know that the center is located in the constellation of Sagittarius which is most prominent in the summertime sky in the Northern hemisphere.

At the center of the Milky Way Galaxy lies a black hole with the mass of millions of Suns. Note that this model is stuck to a stand and viewed at two different angles: mostly face-on top and edge-on bottom.

This image was constructed from infrared data collected by the 2MASS project. Infrared light passes through much of the dust in the Galaxy allowing us to see more of its structure than we can with our eyes. Alignment With the Galactic Center. When people talk about alignments we need to be clear.

The Sun and the center of the Galaxy are only two points: they always form a line! Descriptions of the process are also there, but it should be noted that Nick describes what I refer to as "the solstice-galaxy alignment" with a preference for the equinox as the measuring reference.

Thus, he speaks of the "Holy Cross" of the equinox axis and the Milky Way. The point is that "solstice-galaxy alignment" and "equinox-galaxy cross" refer to the same event. It is my hope that the these definitions will help to standardize the terminology so we can clearly discuss the rare precessional alignment that culminates in era The ecliptic: The path followed by the sun, moon, and planets.

It is the plane of our solar system. The ecliptic encircles the earth and is divided into twelve constellations, or zodiac signs.

The Milky Way: The bright band of star that our solar system belongs to. It encircles the earth and is wider in the region of Sagittarius because that is where the 'nucelar bulge" of the Milky Way's center is located our Milky Way is saucer shaped.

The Galactic equator: The precise mid-line running down the Milky Way. Analogous to the earth's equator, it divides the galaxy into two hemispheres, or lobes. Basing himself on a number of eminent authorities, John Major Jenkins describes a cosmic clock which provides critical end-points in the process of world-cycles. Jenkins makes us aware of the huge scale of the esoteric knowledge of antiquity, and he sets out to restore what has been lost, which is a form of cosmological knowledge embracing all the levels of our complex being at once.

The great changes we are witnessing today are shown to be mysteriously coordinated with cosmic movements which we wrongly thought the ancients knew little or nothing about. Jenkins' solid research and genuine insights into his material make Galactic Alignment a pleasure to read and a true treasure trove of esoteric connections and correspondences.

Building on his original and groundbreaking research on the Maya, Galactic Alignment presents a sweeping look at the world's esoteric traditions in terms of a central and powerfully compelling new idea: that times of galactic alignment might also times of transformation.

Galactic Alignment is the definitive source book for understanding the historical significance of important astronomical events, and how many cultures of the past and right up to modern times wove this astronomical information into their sacred architecture and spiritual belief systems. Jenkins has become the Paul Revere of the modern age, and the importance of the coming of the galactic alignment in should wake everyone out of their preoccupation with material pursuits.

I will confess that sometimes I feel a deep kinship with these thinkers, along with Johannes Kepler, because the discoveries and concepts I write about are also unpopular, even heretical, to the establishment paradigm.

However, let us pursue the analogy. Likewise, my work has sought to break the bubble again, so that we might recognize an even higher center, the Galactic Center, and integrate it into conventional thought as a fundamental player in the affairs of earth.
